The area, the municipalities

Officially created on 1 January 2017, thePrivas Centre Ardèche conurbation (CAPCA) is the result of a merger between the former communities of communes of Privas-Rhône et Vallées (16 communes), Eyrieux aux Serres and Pays de Vernoux (17 communes) and 9 communes from the communities of communes of Roche de Gourdon, Confluences Drôme Ardèche and Châtaigniers.

With 42 communes and 44,163 inhabitants, CAPCA is the 3rd largest urban area in the Ardèche in terms of population, with a surface area of 602 km2 (square kilometres) and an average density of 72 inhabitants per km2.

It is also the administrative centre of the department, with the Prefecture and the head office of the Departmental Council in Privas, which is also the headquarters of the conurbation.
