In the heart of the southern Ardèche, the Aubenas market is a delight every Saturday, with gourmet stalls set in a medieval setting in the town centre. Here’s a closer look at one of the largest markets in the department.

The Aubenas market?
Every Saturday morning and all year round, the historic centre of Aubenas is decked out with colourful stalls stretching from the Place du Château de Montlaur, under the covered market (Halles), to the Champ de Mars and adjacent streets.
During the summer months, over a hundred stallholders liven up the medieval cobblestones: local producers (honey, goat’s and cow’s cheese, fruit and vegetables, etc.), craftspeople and spice merchants rub shoulders in a lively atmosphere.
As well as the traditional market every Saturday, there is also a night market on Wednesdays during the summer holidays, lasting until around midnight, known as Les mercredis d’Aubenas.
For the rest of the year, the foal fair takes over the streets and boulevards of the town on the first Saturday in November, as does the not-to-be-missed Christmas market with its events in the historic centre of the town from 18 December.

Car parks in Aubenas
Access to Aubenas town centre is often difficult by car on market days, and it’s very difficult to find a parking space in the adjoining streets. It’s easier to park in one of the many nearby car parks.
