The Aubenas Basin Community of Communes

The Communauté de Communes du Bassin d’Aubenas(CCBA by its acronym) is located in the heart of thesouthern Ardèche, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is an exceptional area in terms of its geographical diversity, its historical heritage and its economic and cultural dynamism.

Encompassing Aubenas, the2nd largest town in the department, and the surrounding communes over an area of 327 km2 (square kilometres), the CCBA plays a key role in local development, the management of public services and the promotion of tourism in the region.

The territory of the CCBA covers a significant part of the southern Ardèche, with a varied landscape of river valleys, limestone plateaux and mountainous areas. This diversity offers a wealth of natural landscapes and ecosystems, all of which are assets for the area.

Rivers, particularly the Ardèche and Volane, play a vital role in the organisation of the region, providing abundant water resources for agriculture, energy production and water-based leisure activities.

The region is also home to many historic monuments, castles, churches and archaeological sites that bear witness to its past. These heritage sites are both seasonal tourist attractions and centres of cultural activity throughout the year.

Theeconomy of the Communauté de Communes du Bassin d’Aubenas is diversified, with a strong base in traditionalagriculture , tourism, localcrafts and, to a certain extent, lightindustry. The production of chestnuts, goat’s cheese and Ardèche wines are emblematic of the region.

Tourism plays a key role in the region’s economy, drawing on its natural and cultural heritage. Outdoor activities, historic sites, festivals and local markets are major attractions.

Finally, with a density of 123 inhabitants per km2, which is quite high compared with the rest of the department, it represents more than 11% of the Ardèche population. With 29 communes and 40,310 inhabitants (2019 figures), the CCBA is the main urban area in the Southern Ardèche.
