Via Ardèche

The Via Ardèche is a greenway stretching over 80 kilometres, built on former railway lines in the south of the Ardèche, linking Lalevade-d’Ardèche to Grospierres and continuing to the edge of the Gard region at Saint-Paul-de-Jeune and Le Teil in the Rhône Valley. This route largely follows the River Ardèche and includes sections such as those from Vogüé to Ruoms, with a surface of tarmac or stabilised sand. Accessible by bike, on foot or on rollerblades, it passes through listed villages, over viaducts, through tunnels and across varied landscapes with no significant elevation changes, though the varying surface conditions do call for caution.

Construction updates

Work in progress between Saint-Germain and Le Teil (autumn 2025–spring 2026)

The route follows the former railway line from Le Teil to Alès, featuring around 8 viaducts, 2 tunnels and several safe crossings, linking places such as Aubenas, Vogüé, Vallon-Pont-d’Arc and Balazuc. A 28-km section is fully developed between Vogüé and Grospierres, with the route extended northwards by other inter-municipal communities. Bike hire and repair services are available along the route.

Forming part of the Ardèche departmental network of greenways, the Via Ardèche stands out as the southern route, complementing the Dolce Via and the Via Fluvia. Connections to the ViaRhôna and trains such as the Mastrou make it easy to create circular routes. The official website features an interactive map and practical information.
