Served mainly by Route Nationale 102, which links Montélimar in the Drôme to Brioude in the Haute-Loire, the town is a crossroads between the north-south and east-west routes. Although it has no direct motorway link, Aubenas can be reached in less than an hour from the A7 1 motorway, via Montélimar. This secondary network makes Aubenas a gateway for regional journeys and for those crossing the Cévennes on their way to the Mediterranean or the Massif Central.
There are several ways to get to the town from the Rhône valley and the departments of Lozère, Gard, Drôme and Haute-Loire.
Access via the Rhône valley
3 exits from the A7 motorway* will take you to Aubenas, depending on where you are coming from.
From Lyon, Valence and the north of France on the A7
If you love views, one of the most beautiful road routes to Aubenas goes over the Col de l’Escrinet. There are a number of bends, but the pass offers a unique viewpoint at 789 metres above sea level as you plunge down towards Aubenas from Privas. For this route, via the motorway, you need to exit at Loriol-sur-Drôme .

Another alternative for your road itinerary to Aubenas, without going over the Col de l’Escrinet, with fewer bends and less altitude, is exit 17 of the A7 motorway*, which takes you north of Montélimar, across the Rhône to the town of Le Teil in the Ardèche, before climbing towards Aubenas.

From Nîmes, Avignon and the south of France on the A7 motorway
Via theA9 2motorway from the Occitanie region or theA8 3motorway from the Côte d’Azur, you can take exit 18 south of Montélimar off the A7 motorway*, cross the Rhône to the charming town of Viviers and then climb up to Aubenas via theEscoutay valley.
